Opeyemi Akanbi
Opeyemi Akanbi, a native of Nigeria, is a young educator and musician. After graduating from the prestigious Wilberforce University in Xenia, Ohio with her Bachelor's Degree in Psychology, she decided to move to Philadelphia and continue her graduate studies in Music Education. Yemi has a strong passion for music, and especially in the preservation of African and African-American musical traditions. Presently, Yemi serves as Lead Program Coordinator and a Facilitator within CODA Program, which allows her to share her knowledge and passion for music with children and adults alike. She also serves as Philadelphia Chapter Co-Coordinator for The Young Friends Society of African Diasporan Institutions, an organization that partners with various arts and cultural institutions to promote arts awareness within the city. Yemi stays active by performing at open mic venues, giving voice and piano lessons, and writing and recording original music.
